You have tons to do around the house and no time to do it. Your husband works all day long, and you may work outside the household, too. What do you do when you have more than one child over the age of five? Put them to work. Make up a chart of what they're to do every week and reward them. That's what we do. I rotate the jobs, too, so everyone has to do all the jobs in a month's time, just a week at a time. What if they don't do the jobs? Then they don't get the reward. It's a simple system. To begin, every child has to be taught how to do the job. With my son, he had to be shown more than once. Now he's at the point where he likes washing the kitchen floor, because he can do it. Why do this? To teach your children that nothing in life is free. They learn a work ethic, and it does build self-confidence. They know they can do it, and as much as they complain, it's part of being a family. So get your kids out there and give them jobs. Even if you only have one child, they're part of the family and need to be included...even if it's the chores around the house. You can even make a game out of it...I can get my chores done for the week before you can, sort of thing. Trust me...it'll be one skill you'll be thankful you've taught your children when they get older. The more work they have, the less trouble they can get into. |
